Damages
New Works by N.C. Winters
September 10th – October 10th, 2010
Opening Reception with the Artist: Friday, September 10th, 6-10pm

Here’s another sneak peek at what N.C. Winter’s has been doing in preparation for our upcoming show this October. Damages is Winters’ first solo exhibition with Subtext, in which he has created a collection of paintings that interpret the feelings of disrepair, sacrifice and loss wrapped in N.C.’s definitive style. The vibrant colors, raw textures, and enchanting characters found in his work introduces his unique point of view that often incorporates the juxtoposition of disparate themes in a very graphic, yet highly illustrative approach.

James Jean has done it again. This time with his new book, Rift, by Chronicle Books. It’s a small format pieces that has two insanely detailed illustrations, one in color and one in black and white. Sounds simple right? No. The book is designed, so that each time you fold it, it makes a new illustration. Watch the video and be amazed.

I’m always looking for artists that take things to another level, and the paper sculptures of Los Angeles-based artist Jeff Nishinaka do just that. It’s incredible to see the perfection and detail that he is able to achieve with layering paper. Most of the work looks like ceramic or clay, but it’s all paper. Truly beautiful.

Need a ridiculously awesome axe? Of course you do. And here’s where to get it. Best Made Company was founded on the principle that a well made object can enlighten, entertain, and inspire. Everything we sell is simply “the best made” product we can make or find. We first offered the oldest and most primitive tool known to mankind (the axe), and have since branched out into a wide and wonderful selection of equally inspired tools, apparel, art, and objects to spark the imagination.

A good friend turned me on to this really nice website called AisleOne. They describe themselves as, “an inspirational resource focused on graphic design, typography, grid systems, minimalism and modernism”. I could waste hours on this site. It’s packed with tons of great design, so check it out for yourself and see if you don’t get sucked in. Better set aside and hour.

Here’s some really nice photography from Vincent Fournier. He’s got a lot of space-themed shots on his website (from all over the world in fact), along with some incredible landscape photography. His compositions are exquisite, and his use of color really draws you in. Take a look for yourself.
