New Works by Patrick Ballesteros
October 2nd – November 1st, 2009
Preview the Show Here

We had a packed house last Friday for our current show, Cereal Killer by Patrick Ballesteros. The artwork is amazing, and everyone seemed to enjoy trying to find Sugar Bear in all of the pieces. If you missed out, email us here to make an appointment. The show runs through November 1st. More photos of opening night after the jump…

About the Show:
You wanna know one thing that’s not part of a healthy breakfast? Getting killed by a bear! Just when we thought it was safe to sit down and have a nutritous breakfast, a string of gruesome murders began haunting all of our favorite breakfast cereal mascots. They were getting picked off one by one, and who do you think was behind it? Toucan Sam? Count Chocula? Frankenberry? No. It was Sugar Bear all along. Join us this Fall at Subtext as artist Patrick Ballesteros retraces the steps of Sugar Bear’s reign of terror, and see for yourself why he couldn’t get enough.

About the Artist:
Born in North Carolina, Patrick grew up in several states and countries before finally setting up base camp in San Diego in 1991. After graduating from U.C. Irvine in 2001, he decided it was time to become serious about his art career so he continued studying traditional and digital arts at several Southern California schools. For the next 3 years he worked as a graphic designer during the day while fine tuning his drawing and illustration skills at night. Patrick moved to Los Angeles in 2005, in spite of no job lined up and only $600 in the bank, with hopes of finding better artistic opportunities. His tenacity paid off and soon he began his freelance career with clients such as SonyPaul FrankBlack Eyed Peas, Harmonix Music, and BOOM! Studios.Urged by his friend Eleazar, Patrick held his first art show titled “Sleep Parade” at The Kuttingroom Gallery in 2007. This art show led to several new opportunities, which included exhibiting more of his work at Gallery 1988, ISM, and now Subtext Gallery.Today, Patrick lives in Los Angeles with his fiancée, teaches part time at the Art Institute of Orange County, and continues his awesome freelance career. Next in the works? A children’s book and lots more 80′s gold!
